Brigid Harrington Wins Online Vote in Original Songwriting Competition
Brigid has been singing since she could walk. From America's Got Talent... to Nickelodeon... to the Broadway stage, she has been very fortunate to sing almost everywhere. Singing some of the most amazing songs ever written has inspired her to write her own songs. After doing it for fun for many years, Brigid saw a commercial for a New Jersey state wide contest for high school song writers and decided to enter. Sponsored by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey, "Shout Down Drugs" posts the songs entered on-line and the one song getting the most votes becomes "The People's Choice". The songwriter also advances to the finals performing at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (PAC). Brigid received the most votes out of the almost 100,000 votes that were cast for her song #IDontDoDrugs.
Brigid's creation has a unique upbeat message that blends social media with a strong anti drug message to create a winning song. Rick Mellerup from The Sandpaper summed up Brigid's song best when he wrote...
"#IDontDoDrugs is very different from most of the other finalists' entries, both musically and lyrically. The contest is chock full of hip-hop and mournful singer-songwriter solos with lyrics describing the horrors of drug addiction and/or the pain of losing friends to overdoses. Harrington's song, on the other hand, is an upbeat pop number with an instantly I-can't-get-that-tune-out-of-my-head musical hook that proudly proclaims she is drug free. Instead of telling about the pitfalls of drug addiction she sings about the joys of staying straight."

Brigid performing at NJPAC in Newark, NJ
Brigid enjoyed performing her song live at NJPAC and hearing her song played on the radio several times, but better yet, the experience has inspired her to continue to develop her song writing and guitar playing.
